Case Study of Gripper (Work Gripping Mechanism) Gripping Force Improvement by Torque Limiting Function

Issue

Firmly Grasping and Transporting a Load

Firmly Grasping and Transporting a Load

Conventional Equipment

Equipment where a gripper is equipped with an air device grasps a load and transports it to the next process.

Application
Grasping the Load

Conventional Problems

  • Unstable gripping force causes the gripper to drop the load during transportation when carrying loads of certain masses

Solution

Brushless Motor BLE2 Series
A Torque Limiting Function Provides Transportation with a Firm Grip on the Load

Brushless Motor BLE2 Series

The torque limiting function of the Brushless Motor BLE2 Series adequately controls gripping force according to the operation conditions and type of load.

Specific Application Examples

The torque limiting function of the Brushless Motor BLE2 Series keeps workpieces firmly gripped during transport

A Firm Grip on the Load Using Multi-Step Torque Limiting to Match Conditions

The torque limiting function allows for setting the motor so that it does not generate more than the desired value of torque. The limiting value can be changed mid-operation, so the grip can clamp the load lightly, then slowly increase gripping force, and grasp it firmly.

Image of the torque limiting function control
Load is clamped lightly with a low torque limiting value (to the extent of touch)
The limiting value is switched, gripping force increases steadily, and the load is gripped firmly

Handling for Loads of Various Shapes

The BLE2 Series offers 16 torque limiting value settings.
By switching the setting value according to the type of load, the BLE2 Series can handle loads of various shapes.

Output Power 30 W, 60 W, 120 W, 200 W, 400 W
Torque Limiting Setting Range*1 0~300 %
Number of Points for Which Limits Can Be Set 16 Points
Torque Limiting Error*2 ±10 %
Speed Control Range*3 80~4000 r/min
*1
The value when the rated torque value is 100 %
*2
An error of approximately ±10 % maximum (at rated torque and rated speed) may occur between the setting value and generated torque due to the setting speed, power supply voltage and motor cable extension distance.
*3
The BXII Series with a speed control range of 2 to 4000 r/min is also available.
