What's wrong, Vex? Is there something you want to talk about?

  • Mr. Vex

Ms. Ori, a customer asked me if there is any way to select an AC motor (induction motor) that can help with carbon neutrality. How should I introduce them?

  • Ms. Ori

Vex, what do you think is necessary to achieve carbon neutrality in the first place?

  • Mr. Vex

    I think it’s about reducing CO2 emissions.

  • Ms. Ori

That’s right. What kind of motor do you think we should choose?

  • Mr. Vex

Does this mean that I should choose an energy-efficient motor that consumes less power?

  • Ms. Ori

Yes! Correct! You can refer to "IE" when looking for a high efficiency motor. Do you know about "IE”?

  • Mr. Vex

I've heard of it, but I'm not sure what it means...

  • Ms. Ori

IE is an international standard that grades the energy efficiency of induction motors. The grades are divided up as 4>3>2>1, so that should help you find an efficient motor.

  • Mr. Vex

In other words, I can reduce power consumption by choosing IE4, the highest grade!

  • Ms. Ori

By the way, Oriental Motor's KIIS Series 200 W AC motor is IE4.

  • Mr. Vex

Thank you! I’m a little curious, does the IE apply to fans that use the same AC motor (induction motor)?

  • Ms. Ori

Good question, Mr. Vex. You need to choose a fan that complies with national and regional energy efficiency regulations. For example, in the EU, there is a Commission Regulation "(EU)No 327/2011" that covers fans of 125 W or more as of 2011, and it also requires efficiency in fan air flow.
("(EU)No 327/2011" refers to the European Commission Regulation implemented by the European Parliament and Council Directive 2009/125/EC. This covers cooling fans with an input between 125 W~500 kW at the maximum efficiency point, and must meet the efficiency grades specified as applicable to Ecodesign.)

  • Mr. Vex

So efficiency regulation requirements vary by country and region. Are Oriental Motor fans compliant with EU327?

  • Ms. Ori

The MRE Series (frame size 250 mm-120 mm thick) and MRS Series (frame size 250 mm-120 mm thick) are compliant.

  • Mr. Vex

Thank you! I see that all I have to do is choose a fan that complies with its own energy efficiency regulations!

  • Ms. Ori

Wait a minute, Vex! Fan power consumption can be controlled even with products that are not regulated by energy efficiency regulations.

  • Mr. Vex

    Is that so?!

  • Ms. Ori

That’s right. It is important to choose fans that consume less power than conventional products, but the way the product is used can also reduce power consumption. For example the MRE Series frame size 200 mm is effective when combined with an inverter as it allows you to adjust the air flow.

  • Mr. Vex

We introduce IE to the customers as a way to select AC motors, and also introduce inverter combinations as a way to reduces power consumption!

  • Ms. Ori

    Good luck, Vex!
